Meeting was called to order by President Nora Furey at 2:40 PM
In attendance were the club officers and Donna Liming, Irene McGill, Joan Booty, Adrienne Roth, Marion Herndon, Wayne Emerich, Pat Trepani, Joe Boonin,Bob Celso, Stan Vernon, Burt Rodgers,Uri Cohen, Carolyn Yandle, Don Geahry and Jack Cassidy.
TREASURER'S REPORT The balance in the club's account at 9/30/2009 was $7,566. Since there was extra money in the account the board approved a payment of $500 to Harriet Schwartz to reimburse her payment to Bear Valley for the September 2009 Safari. Also, a payment of $150 was authorized for the entertainment for the Holiday Party as well as a $100 honorarium for the speaker at the annual meeting in October.
MEMBERSHIP Joe Boonin reported that we currently have 240 members.
GENERALMEETING Marion Herndon requested volunteers to set up and serve pie at the annual meeting on October 15, 2009.Adrienne Roth volunteered to be Marion's “back up” and Harriet Schwartz, Pat Trepani and Mary Ann Garvey volunteered to help.
SAFARIS Calistoga – Donna Liming reported on the mini safari to be heldon November 10th and 11th.
Yosemite – Jack Cassidy reported that this safari will be January 18th through January 22nd. Those interested in going should mail a check to Jack for $51.00 for the train from Martinez and call Yosemite Lodge for their reservations.
Marconi Lodge (Point Reyes) – Bob Celso reported that he has 28 reservations as of today. The dates are April 26, April 27 and April 29th. He stressed that travel insurance should be purchased in case someone has to cancel as the deposits received are non refundable.
Berkeley Family Camp – Don Geahry announced tentative dates of June 13 through June 17th 2010.
Bear Valley – Harriet Schwartz has made reservations at the Bear Valley Lodge for September 20th through September 24th. There could be a possible add on to Lone Pine following the Bear Valley Trip.
POSSIBLE FUTURE SAFARIS Pat Trepani is going to explore the possibility of a 2010 safari to Kenwood, CA (near Sonoma) and Donna Liming suggested a trip to Pinnacles National Monument in 2010.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF SAFARI AND HIKE LEADERS There was a long discussion about the above and many suggestions were offered as to how to keep hike safaris safe and about how to handle hikers who may jeopardize their safety or the safety of other hikers. Because of the complexity of this topic a committee was formed to establish guidelines. This committee will be: Diane Hinds, Harriet Schwartz, Nora Furey, Dave Leichter and Adrienne Roth.They will report on the guidelines at the January 2010 Board meeting.
Don Geahry handed out a schedule of Safari Guidelines indicating when club safaris are usually held each year.
Harriet Schwartz presented an “Event Evaluation” form which could be used to help future event leaders with information regarding each event.
