New and experienced hikers are encouraged to participate in one or more of the three weekly scheduled hikes. There are various degrees of difficulty and most people who would like to hike will likely find one of the groups suitable to their abilities. The Scramblers undertake more difficult hikes and the Amblers less difficult ones; the Ramblers fall between these two. Once a month many of the Scramblers undertake the most challenging of all our hikes, the Power Scrambler. See below for more details or see group descriptions under Hiking Information/Descriptions on this site.
Hikers meet behind the Multipurpose Rooms (park in the rear Gateway Parking Lot) by 8:45 a.m. for a 9 a.m. departure by carpool on Wednesdays and Saturdays and at the same area Hall by 9 a.m. on Mondays for a walk on the golf course when it is normally closed to golfers. Wednesday and Saturday hikers bring a lunch and water. Those who hike on Mondays need only bring water as the hikes break before lunch.
The club also schedules several three to five day excursions, fondly called "safaris" throughout the year.
The hiking groups are descriptions are as follows:
Amblers: 3 to 5 miles at a leisurely pace, up to 500 feet elevation gain
Ramblers: 5 to 7 miles at a moderate pace, up to 1500 feet elevation gain. More elevation gain may reduce speed of the hike.
Scramblers: 5 to 8 miles at a moderate pace, up to 2000 feet elevation gain or possible faster pace if less than 1000 feet elevation gain.
Power Scramblers: 9 to 12 miles at a moderate pace, up to 3000 feet elevation gain or possible faster pace if less than 1500 feet elevation gain. Normally travel greater distances to hike and often dinner prior to return. Normally one per month during second week.
